🌿 Why This Tea? Roasting Darjeeling is a genuinely daring act — and in lesser hands, it would be an act of destruction. Darjeeling's reputation rests entirely on its delicacy, its floral refinement, and the terroir-driven complexity that makes it the world's most celebrated tea origin. To subject those qualities to the heat of a dark roast risks obliterating precisely what makes Darjeeling extraordinary. What Sancha's Master Tea Taster has achieved with Summer Tips is something far more considered and far more skilful — a restrained, precise roasting of select Orange Pekoe whole leaves that introduces a seductive toasted caramel warmth without ever silencing the floral nose and Darjeeling character beneath it. The result is a tea of genuine rarity and sophistication — two flavour worlds that seem entirely incompatible in theory coexisting in remarkable, unexpected harmony in the cup. The floral freshness of Darjeeling arriving first on the nose, the caramel warmth developing on the palate, and the two resolving together into a finish of nuanced, layered complexity that neither roasted teas nor conventional Darjeeling can achieve independently. This is Darjeeling reimagined by a master — and the imagination is extraordinary.
👤 Who Is It For? This tea is for the experienced Darjeeling drinker ready to encounter their favourite origin from an entirely new angle — someone whose palate knows conventional Darjeeling well enough to appreciate just how remarkable the addition of a restrained caramel roast truly is. It's for the dark roast lover — the coffee drinker, the Lapsang enthusiast, the roasted oolong devotee — who has always found pure Darjeeling too delicate and unroasted for their taste, and who will discover in Summer Tips a Darjeeling that speaks directly to their palate without sacrificing any of the origin's essential character. It's for the connoisseur who collects unusual and specially commissioned teas — teas that exist because a Master Tea Taster had a vision and the expertise to realise it — and for the gift-giver who wants to present something that will genuinely surprise, delight, and provoke the kind of curious, appreciative second cup that only a truly original tea inspires.
🕘 When to Drink It? Summer Tips occupies a beautifully versatile position in the day — its roasted caramel depth and medium caffeine giving it a range and presence that lighter Darjeeling expressions cannot match, while its floral nose and Darjeeling refinement keep it from ever feeling as heavy or demanding as a full-roasted black tea. In the morning, the caramel warmth and Orange Pekoe body make it a deeply satisfying and genuinely sustaining first cup — more grounding than conventional Darjeeling, more refined than a standard breakfast blend, and more interesting than either. As an afternoon tea, it performs magnificently alongside food — the toasted caramel character pairing naturally with baked goods, shortbread, and dark chocolate in a way that makes the tea and the table feel genuinely considered together. In the evening, its medium caffeine and the roast's naturally warming, soothing quality make it an excellent early evening cup — substantial enough to feel like a proper end to the day, refined enough to be savoured slowly rather than simply consumed. Brew at 90–95°C for 3–4 minutes, drink plain first to experience the full interplay of floral nose and caramel warmth — then, if desired, with a small amount of milk to discover how the roasted character deepens and sweetens into something altogether more indulgent. Both experiences are worth having. Neither is wrong. That versatility is itself a mark of how exceptional this tea truly is.
